We can offer a wide range of activities and workshops at your school or sixth form, or here, at the college. Depending on group size, preferred location and the time of year, each activity can be tailored to your individual needs.
Listed below is a selection of the activities we currently run. They are designed to give you an insight into how we can help your students whilst they make important decisions about their future, with specific sessions for school leavers, HE and apprenticeships.
We can also create custom activities and programmes for you, if you prefer.
Our presentation sessions are designed to offer students an in-depth look into their post 16 options. They’re suitable for years 10-13 and can be delivered at your school or sixth form, either to a single class or a whole year group. School leavers could benefit from a careers-orientated presentation with a focus on A-Levels, Vocational courses and apprenticeships.
Those students in year 12 and 13 can benefit from the expertise of our HE partner, UCEN Suffolk, as they will learn about the different levels of study at HE, the different places to study and the UCAS system in this Higher Education presentation.
Workshops and Skills Sessions
Our workshops focus on a range of different skills and processes, providing helpful advice, guidance and training to young people. Through the delivery of our workshops and sessions, students can learn about the importance developing employability skills, learn how to write effective personal statement and application forms, and even how to use the UCAS system.
We deliver LMI sessions to young people, offering them an insight into the career options available to them post 16. We also offer CV and cover letter writing sessions to students, where the real life experience and expertise of the School Liaison Team and their strong links with employers prove very useful.
Campus Tours and Taster Sessions
Through our campus tours, we offer students the chance to experience an FE learning environment. They will be able to explore the facilities here at College of Suffolk and experience what the college has to offer. HE tours of UCEN Suffolk are also available for year 12 and 13 students, to discover what studying in higher education is really like. We have Student Ambassadors on hand who can support tours, speak with students about their experiences and advise them on different study options.
Our curriculum specific taster sessions take the on-campus experience one step further, allowing student to see first-hand what studying further education is really like. They receive an insight into a variety of different industry areas with specific subjects to help them choose their next steps. We also offer curriculum master classes, where our curriculum staff will come out to schools to deliver classroom sessions to students. This gives students the opportunity to explore specific areas of FE study, without having to leave the school!
Our annual year 10 taster day is an excellent way for students to receive a more in-depth understanding of what studying at College of Suffolk is like. In 2018, we offered more than 800 Year 10 pupils the chance to try out two different subject taster sessions on campus. Feedback from this event showed proved very beneficial, as over 89% of pupils said the day was either ‘enjoyable’ or ‘very enjoyable’ and that they had gained a real insight into college life.
